Smoke alarms

Legislation that was introduced on 1 January 2017 mandates that all smoke alarms must comply with Australian Standard 3786-2014 and stipulates that pre-existing smoke alarms must be replaced with interconnected smoke alarms by 1 January 2027.

As the deadline approaches, it is essential that all existing private homes, townhouses, and units are equipped with interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms. These alarms may either be hardwired to the mains with a secondary power source (such as a non-removable 10-year battery) or consist of a standalone unit powered by a 10-year non-removable battery.
