making the best use of a very small and awkward space.

When there is simply nothing that suits the size you need for sale from the usual places. There are always still more options. This bathroom cabinet has turned a narrow bathroom with very little room for storage space into an aesthetically pleasing and highly efficient use of the space.

The design, style and dimensions were given by the client and the wood we chose to use was once again recycled pre-loved decking planks. These were modern pine decking planks that had spent a few years in the sun and rain during their previous life.

Once the planks were picked out from the pile. It didn’t take long to turn the cupped, bowed, twisted and weathered timbers into straight and usable pieces with that lovely bright pine grain showing through.

This was a fairly straight forward build, following the design specifications and sorting out the technical parts, i.e. the type of joinery to use at each join.
The shelf strength comes from each cross member piece being pressed into the dado cuts in the main uprights.
While 2 diagonal metal straps at the rear lower half protects from lateral sway, giving the unit a very sturdy feel.

With a combination of paint and timber finish I really like the way the white shelves contrast from the frame and tie in with the rattan doors.
